Come along for the ride

I have been blogging about our full-time travels across America in the RV/camper for the past two-plus years on my home website at www.jakeirns.com and at Medium. I am always looking for new ways to reach more readers. Hence, the reason for starting a new space here at Substack.

This is our current camper setup. It is our third. Our first RV was a 2002 Winnebago Sightseer. Our second was a 2003 Newmar Scottsdale. This one is a 2019 Rockwood Windjammer that we pull behind the 2016 Nissan Titan XD diesel pickup truck.

On April 25, 2022, we pulled out of our driveway in the Winnebago with everything we owned in tow, leaving behind the house to a new owner. We opted not to store anything, but instead to sell or give away everything we didn’t need or wouldn’t fit in the RV. Yes, everything we own now is in the camper or the truck bed. We have become true minimalists.

Our travels have taken us from the Olympic Peninsula in the state of Washington to Maine, from Florida to southern Texas, and everywhere in between. I may post some of those old stories here, but most of what I want to do is blog about daily living, what we do, and where we go. It might be a short post on days when we stay home, or a long post as we sightsee.

We both love this lifestyle and will never go back to a sticks-and-bricks permanent home. If the time ever comes that we physically can’t travel anymore we will probably rent a small apartment in a 55+ community where there is no lawn maintenance required.

I am not only a published author and writer but an avid amateur photographer as well and I like to share photos in my stories too. We visit a lot of national historical sites, national parks, and state parks and I like to delve into some of the history behind them. Our travel experiences are never boring.
