Well, hello there. If you haven’t kept up with our travels, I guess it’s time to show you the first RV. We lucked out in acquiring this beautiful motorhome from a family member. It was a 2002 Winnebago Sightseer and we absolutely loved it. It was a Class A 28-foot motorhome. The inside was roomy even with the slide closed. We had plenty of room to walk back to the bed or bathroom and even open the refrigerator. This was especially nice when we pulled into a rest area to sleep for the night.
Getting rid of everything in the house that would not fit in the motorhome was the first challenge. When we decided to sell the house we didn’t immediately plan to move into an RV full time. It was a process of looking for a rental and finding nothing available. What was available was either too expensive or didn’t allow animals. Our little dog Forest was part of the family and where we went, he went.
The decision to buy the RV came through the process. Once the decision was made, it became a matter of deciding whether we were going to go all in or pay for a storage facility. We both decided to go all in, especially once we found out how expensive it was to rent a storage place.
The purge began and it was a lot easier than you might think. We started by listing large items for sale on Facebook Marketplace and all of our local garage sale sites. Every few weekends we hosted a yard sale or garage sale. As things sold, I began to realize that I didn’t miss them. We had so much stuff we didn’t use and didn’t even remember we had. We began to get used to the idea of purging and letting go of things became easier.
Moving into the RV made me realize that I actually had a lot of room. We probably could have kept more than we did, but keeping the weight down was important too. After one month of living in the RV, we found a lot of things we didn’t need and we ended up donating even more stuff to some local thrift stores along the way.
In case you didn’t know, we are from Ohio, both born and raised. We are not as avid Ohio State Buckeye fans as the previous owner of the motorhome was, but we loved the design and colors. Check out the refrigerator.
We loved the fact that this motorhome was a one-of-a-kind. It was personally wrapped and decorated. Sometimes as we drove down the road people would honk at us. We loved it.
Eventually, this first RV became a little small and we purchased a larger one, but this one will always hold a special place in our hearts as the first.
